Oceanic Global’s Hamptons Hub hosted a screening of Oyster to facilitate a discussion around local sustainable aquaculture out East.
Oyster is a feature-length documentary capturing the daily routines, chaos, and drama of a lively, hard-working second-generation oyster farming family on Merimbula Lake on the south-east coast of Australia. This local story goes to the heart of matters of global urgency – climate, sustainability, farming, the health, livelihood, and education of rural communities, and the challenges and uncertainties that come with farming a luxury product.
The evening continued with a cocktail reception and expert speaker panel at lululemon East Hampton.
Local experts on sustainable aquaculture and fisheries joined us to share greater insight and lead a post-screening discussion. Panelists included:
- Kate Rossi-Snook (Environmental Advocate, Concerned Citizen’s of Montauk)
- Joe Realmuto (Chef/Partner, Honest Man Restaurant Group)
- Steven Schnee (Founders Oyster Farm)
- Matt Ketcham (Peconic Gold Oysters)
- Karen Rivara (Peconic Pearls)
- Moderated by Elise Gilchrist from Dock-to-Dish
At the reception, drinks from Montaukila and Splash Premium Mixers accompanied a raw bar hosted by Long Island Oysters Growers Association, with an assortment of shellfish sourced from various Long Island locations including: Hamptons Oyster Co., Founders Oyster Farm, Peconic Gold Oysters, Peconic Pearls, Great Gun Shellfish, Montauk Shellfish Company.
